Make a ringtone or short audio clip privately

A good ringtone, alert sound or shareable quote usually needs only a few seconds from a longer recording. This audio cutter lets you pick a start time and an end time, then saves that section as a fresh audio file. It works with common audio files and also accepts video files when the sound you want is inside a clip. Because the output drops the video track, you can quickly turn a concert recording, voice memo, interview, lecture or screen recording into a compact MP3, M4A or WAV download.

The workflow is built for privacy. Your file is not sent to a server and there is no account, upload queue or cloud copy. The browser loads ffmpeg.wasm, writes the selected file into a temporary in-memory file system and creates the trimmed result locally. When the download starts, the temporary input and output names are cleaned up from the engine.

Use fades for cleaner starts and endings

Short clips can sound abrupt when they begin in the middle of speech, music or background noise. Optional fade-in and fade-out controls smooth the edges without needing a full audio editor. A small value such as 0.3 or 0.5 seconds is often enough for a notification sound, while longer music clips may benefit from one or two seconds. If you do not need fades, leave both controls at zero and the tool will trim only the selected range.

Choosing MP3, M4A or WAV

MP3 is the default because it produces small files and plays on almost every device, making it a practical choice for ringtones and quick sharing. M4A uses AAC audio, which is efficient and common on phones and modern media apps. WAV creates larger uncompressed files, but it is useful when you plan to keep editing the clip or want to avoid another lossy generation. For best results, test the downloaded file on the device or app where you plan to use it before deleting the original source. The first cut may pause while the media engine downloads, but later cuts in the same tab can start faster.

How to use

  1. Choose mediaDrop or browse for an audio or video file on your device.
  2. Set the clipEnter start and end times in seconds or mm:ss, then optionally add fades.
  3. CutTrim the clip locally and download the ringtone or audio segment.

Frequently asked questions

Does this audio cutter upload my file?
No. The selected audio or video file stays on your device and is trimmed locally in your browser with ffmpeg.wasm.
Why does the first ringtone take longer?
The first run downloads the WebAssembly media engine. After it is loaded, later cuts in the same tab can reuse it.
Can I cut audio from a video?
Yes. Choose a video file, set the time range and the tool drops the picture with -vn so the download is audio only.
Which output format should I use?
MP3 is the best default for ringtones and sharing, M4A works well on many phones and WAV is useful for editing.
